Alexa Skills - Developer Voice And Vote

Welcome to the Alexa Skills Feature Request site! This site enables Alexa Skills Developers to request and vote on features you’d like to see in the developer toolset and services for Alexa.

To keep this site purpose-driven and actionable, we moderate requests. Here’s some guidance on how to create great feature requests that can be evaluated by our development teams. For conversation, dialogue or help, you should visit our Alexa forums. We appreciate your input.

  1. Indicate whether a reprompt has been spoken (or not).

I have an ASK v2, node.js lambda function that prompts and reprompts in the regular way with the prompt (.speak()) providing information and and eliciting the next utterance, followed by a couple of other example utterances (let's call them hints) in the reprompt, something like:

    return responseBuilder

.speak('blah blah blah. What would you like next?')

.reprompt('You might say something like When do you open? ' +
    'or How much are tickets?')
    .getResponse()

I have a set of hints and try to speak them in a way that exposes the most useful first, followed by the not-quite-so-useful next, and so on.

  2. Add alexa smart home directive to remove a grant (Unlink / Disable skill)

Similarly to the AcceptGrant Directive. https://developer.amazon.com/docs/device-apis/alexa-authorization.html#acceptgrant

Would be nice to receive an event (DeleteGrant?) whenever the user tap on the disable skill button.

In this way we can clean/free resources on our side too.
Currently the only way to detect that a user had disabled the skill is with the error response from the alexa event gateway.

    Hello,

Thank you for submitting an Alexa Skills Feature Request. To keep the site purpose-driven and actionable, we only surface Alexa skills and Alexa developer feature requests at this time. Your request has been received and routed to the appropriate internal team for consideration. You can review our guidelines for how to post an effective feature request here: http://alexa.uservoice.com/knowledgebase/articles/1823500

    Thank you!

  3. Provide alexa feedback for each smarthome skill error type

There are few error types available when replying to an alexa event: https://developer.amazon.com/docs/device-apis/alexa-errorresponse.html#error-type-values

Seems that the error type does not influence the response of alexa to the user..
    See: https://forums.developer.amazon.com/questions/176777/smart-home-skill-error-response.html

Please document how alexa will react to each error.

  4. Support AMAZON.JP_CITY and AMAZON.JP_REGION

We wanna create some skills about Japanese to the Skill store in the US.
But in the US there are no built-in list slot types about Japan.

We want to use list slots for Japanese City and Region slots like an AMAZON.ATCITY and AMAZON.ATREGION.

    Thanks,

  5. Voice & Tone simulator – please allow dynamic width!

The Voice & Tone tab has a fixed width and the text doesn't wrap. So when pasting in speech strings, it's really difficult to make micro SSML adjustments because you don't have a full visual of the string. This is bad for 2 reasons:

    1) scrolling left/right on your trackpad can very easily bring you to the previous webpage in your browser and lose your work. this is very frustrating when it happens!!

    2) the other work around is manually breaking your strings into chunks that match the fixed width of the window, which is annoying and potentially error prone.

  6. Skill Earnings month selection dropdown is broken

On the skill earnings tab of the Alexa developer console, there is a dropdown to select the month and year for which you'd like to view earnings. The default is to the current month, and the dropdown is ordered sequentially.

Unfortunately, the dropdown's height seems to be locked to the height of the div behind it, so if the div behind it is small, several months towards the end of the year get cut off from the drop down, and there is no scroll bar (or middle-button scroll) on the dropdown, making it impossible to select the elements at the…

  8. Allow to add custom channels in Video Skills

At the moment there is a hardcoded list of channels in the video skill. It should be possible to add new channels to the list.

  10. Provide a "Flash Briefing error" webhook for developers

It would be great to be notified if there any of our Live Flash Briefing skills experience an error on the users' Echo device.

We provide a custom error message that gets read to the customer, but the developer doesn't get notified when an error occurs. If a webhook was provided, developers could collect stats and setup alerts so we're aware of errors.

At the moment, the only indication something is wrong is by viewing the analytics for EACH flash briefing. Since there is no analytics API for flash briefing skills at this time this also is a manual process.

  11. Alexa Gadgets Toolkit - use a Gadget to trigger a response

All the capabilities in this Alexa Gadget Toolkit announcement are focused around triggering gadget behaviors based on Alexa-initiated events. What about the other way around? Please make it possible to have a Gadget trigger a response from Alexa.

  13. Display answers for skill reviews in the Alexa App

Currently users can vote for a skill and give a short review (sometimes with questions, sometimes faulty operations or the rating means another skill). As developer/or user you can answer to this review on amazon.com/de/co.uk etc.
But it isn't displayed in the Alexa App! Nobody can see it except on the website. But only very few users know that

  14. Recognize the correct pronunciation of words that are regionally/cultrally significant. ie: Māori, or Te Reo in the ANZ region.

This is applicable to other regions as well, but my local example is that many Māori words are used with in regular New Zealand speech. At a minimum the word Māori should be recognized when pronounced correctly. To clarify I am not asking for the complete model of the language

  15. An IAM permissions 'calculator' that generates a custom/baseline policy for external Skill Devs

Solely to address 'least permissive' practices during the engagement of a developer with an AWS account having been engaged to work to create a Alexa skill(s) on behalf of another AWS account.

Although some of the role templates in IAM are comprehensive, the concept of "Least permissive is always the best approach." 'could' be strengthened by being verifiable to a posted AWS best practice set of specific outlined activities.

The benefit is that a 3rd party sees that AWS has published those permission sets; the Dev. is able to refer to AWS distilling a best-practices starting point, and 'least permissive'…

  16. Smart home skill for thermostat, schedule not active - error message for resume schedule command

I want a custom error for the case when my thermostat is not in a scheduled setting. For this, I wanted to use the "NOTINOPERATION" error type but i don't get a very clear message. I would like something like: "The thermostat does not have any schedule to resume"

  18. Regiment when AMAZON.Date return days in the past

Right now, it's completely random how AMAZON.Date understands whether day of the week are in the past or the future. ("What's the weather Sunday?")

Half the time AMAZON.Date return last Sunday, the other half the next Sunday.

This should be regimented. Past days should only be returned when the user say "last Sunday" or "this past Sunday", etc.

Really shouldn't need to argue for this. It's completely crazy that this hasn't be dealt with by now!

  19. Ability to set up different payment info for earnings from different geographies

Currently all Amazon earnings from Alexa have to paid into the same bank account - please could developers have the option of directing Amazon US earnings into a US account, and EU earnings into another to save losing money on currency conversion.

  20. Give the ability to cache files on the user's device or account

Give the ability to cache files on the user's device or account.

I'm making a skill that involves playing a large sounds file for the user. The bandwidth charges for this can get pretty high and if a lot of people are using the skill response can get slow. It would be great to be able to cache the file so after they play it the first time it plays locally.
