  1. Allow routines to operate in longer schedules and not just days of week. For example, do something every month (e.g. discharge emergency lights to make their batteries live longer)

  2. Many users of our smart garage controller device requested the ability to use garage door commands in Alexa routines to enable scenarios like:

    • Ensure that all garage doors are closed at sunset
    • Control garage doors by pressing Echo button
    • Turn on and off smart lights when doors open or close
    • Open/close doors based on your location
    • Create voice aliases for various garage door commands and grouped actions

According to Alexa developer support (CASE 7219455151) this capability is not currently supported.

  3. It will be better for the user, to add more than one statement as alternative voice command in the same Alexa Routine instead of creating separately.

    For example:

A user creates a routine named "I'm home". The tasks under this routine will be executed when the user says to Alexa "Alexa, I'm home".

However, the user may also say

    "Alexa, I'm back" or
    "Alexa, I return home" or
"Alexa, I enter in sweet home" or
    "Alexa, I enter home" or
"Alexa, I'm back to my room" or
    "Alexa, I just arrive" or
    "Alexa, I arrive home" or
    "Alexa, I reach…

  4. I can only use a skill at the end of a routine? Why? I want to start with a skill inside my routine, but I get everytime a message, that this skill must be at the end of a routine.

  5. I have IRC devices in two rooms, controlling a TV, Audio Device, Cable box. They both have the same model cable box.

I would like to be able to trigger different routine logic path depending on which echo device receives the command.

IE: "Alexa Start NBC" would trigger the remote code or scene for the bedroom IRC when the bedroom echo receives the command, or the living room IRC which the livingroom echo receives the command.

  6. Ability to use special characters (dots) in the routine name. Or fix voice command interpretation. I am trying to use CBC in the routine name, but Alexa always interprets it as c. b. c. I tried using that in the routine command, but I get an error saying that I cannot use special characters. Please fix this bug.

  7. My idea has two parts:
    1. Add a web editor for routines also on alexa.amazon.* that works like android/iOS app editor
    2. Add also an "advanced mode" where you can directly write code and, maybe, add more complex logic, variables ecc...

  8. Your routines will not allow for any of my light switches or plugs to be used as a trigger, hence switch goes on anounce something as action. This restriction makes no sence and cannot seem to be able to find any smart switches or plugs that will show in the routines device triggers screen.

  9. Currently in routines there are repeated schedule options that can only be only configured by daily basis.

There is no options by bi-weekly, monthly, yearly or at certain date, hourly, every 5/10/N minutes.

I want to configure a alexa routine to wish a birthday for my family at certain date every year by turning all my RGB lights on and play some birthday music.

Basically need more schedule options for different intervals by year, monthly date and time. Like a cron job.

  10. When creating a routine, have an option to add a step where Alexa seeks user input (voice) so that additional information or steps can be configured. Would work well with integration of logic gates in routine builder as well, and ability to parse user input to future steps.

Ex. ‘Goodnight’ routine that turns off living room lights/tv and asks about turning on bedroom tv.

User: Alexa, I’m heading to bed.

Alexa: Do you want me to turn on the bedroom TV for you?

    User: Yes

Routine runs standard commands to turn off living room lights and tv, as well as…

  11. It is not possible to use acronyms in custom routines as the invocation needs periods and they are not allowed as they are considered special characters. For example if you write "watch c n n", Alexa understands "watch c. n. n." and won't recognize or match the phrase. Could you please find a way to allow the use of acronyms in a routine?

  12. As of today, most of the audio routines can only be run from one device. Any routine should be able to be run on all devices at once. For example, playing a sound on a schedule.

  13. Allow conditions for scheduled routines. Example: Turn on Christmas Lights at sunset but only if chance of rain is zero percent.

  14. The SecurityPanelController (SPC) class is not supported under routines when it is a natural that it should. Many people would like to use geofencing to arm/disarm their security system but the SPC is not supported. This is really strange as we have hundreds of thousands of users and this is one of the first things they ask for when they enable our SPC skill.

Amazon technical support said I should post a feature request.

  15. Would be great if SmartHome's Alexa.TemperatureSensor interface is supported as a routine trigger (not the Echo's one but the generic one)

  16. This is more Alexa core capability, but I would like to see the ability to assign specific skills or routines to specific Alexa devices. For example, if I put an Alexa in my garage, limit the capabilities to playing music and outside lights, so if someone is outside my garage and they yell a command to disable my alarm, it wouldn’t respond.

  17. Allow the sunset trigger to be offset by more than 60 minutes, similar to other platforms which allow greater control. Today I have to use a 3rd party to complete a task at sunset minus 90 and can only use Alexa at sunset minus 60. I'd prefer to keep this completely within Alexa.

  18. Do not remove a device from a routine if it fails to access the device. If I have a lamp turned off and run a routine that tries to turn it on or off, Alexa deletes the device from the routine.

  19. Alexa - I’ve noticed it’s 10 o’clock and the house alarm is not set, would you like me to set it for you?
    User - Yes (sets alarm)
    User - No (does nothing)

  20. I'm constantly setting the same timer and would like a routine to make it simple.
Eg I want to see a tea timer of 4 minutes
I could just have a routine called make tea - which announces "setting a 4 minute tea timer" then it starts a 4 minute timer.
The wait or delay doesn't accomplish the same as a timer keeps ringer until I stop it
