Alexa Skills - Developer Voice And Vote

Welcome to the Alexa Skills UserVoice site!

This site enables Alexa Skill Developers to request and vote on features you'd like to see in the developer toolset and services for Alexa.

Please bear in mind that this site is for Alexa skill builders, not Alexa users. Additionally, we cannot guarantee each feature request will be implemented but our team reviews each request and sends to the appropriate product teams.
For more information about using UserVoice, please see our blog post here: [Vote on developer features you would like to see at Alexa Skills Kit User Voice]

  1. Together with the JSON request, developers should be able to see if a user has 'brief mode' active or not.
This gives the skill developer more insight into the user preferences and they can choose to shorten their skill responses.

  2. If you call your Alexa design language APL (Alexa Presentation Language), it will be very confusing. APL is A Programming Language, a popular array oriented language implemented by IBM, Dyalog, and many others. It has been around since the early 1960s. Look up APL programming language on the web and you'll see. Can I suggest AVL (Alexa Voice Language)?

  3. Creation of an "AMAZON.ExtendedHoldIntent" type intent.

To the user, the device clearly indicates to be in a waiting state by graying out or blanking the screen.
A mauve to white to mauve triangle wave flashes on the hardware LED(s) as the indicator.
"(wake work +), I'm back / okay / continue etc." re-triggers the previous speech directive and prompt etc.
    AWS modifies the Lambda’s context.
The Alexa Skill triggers the lambda with previous attributes and is not a new session.
Amazon decides how best to handle the Lambda compute use time increase, or which maximums are allowable.

  4. Its very annoying, that you can not test your skill without deploying it. Especially because you have to change the lambda endpoint when updating your skill because otherwise your live lambda function will be overwritten.

It would be great to be able to test locally like 'ask-simulate' without deploying.

  5. At times, request processing takes more than it is allowed by Alexa timeout. I want to be able to wake Alexa up and give user feedback

  6. A very simple command such as "Alexa, battery" to report battery level. Would be very helpful to those who are sight-impaired and use tablets for audiobook play.

  7. I’d like to be able to move an audio file into the lists of alarm sounds available. So I could wake up to a customized file.

  8. Reasons:

    1. Because it's so natural for people to do! And Alexa is a product for people.

    2. Users quite often start to speak while Alexa is still speaking or just finished speaking and haven't yet turned on its mic.
There is a blue light, but sometimes users speak to Alexa when it's outside of their view site. Alexa is designed to be for eye-busy experience, and eyes might be busy while interaction.

    3. Alexa is actually listening to users all the time while it's speaking - but now it only detects a wake word. So why don't allow a full intent there?

  10. Please provide an endpoint for when a user disables (unlinks) a linked skill.
This will allow us to know its time to delete any data we have for the user, and therefore be good to users with the use of their data.

  11. It would be great if we could add a filter to change the speed of apla components including at a sequencer/parallel level so it applies to all children.

    E.g

speed:1 would play at 100% speed (or default)

You could do speed:2 to play at twice the speed or speed:0.5 to slow down the speech.

This would allow a single asset to play in slow motion or speed up for example

  12. For seniors needing help , they may be confused or can’t remember how to activate Alexa for help. Allow Alexa to respond to an emergency without the wake word Alexa.

  13. APL video "loaded" event to enable showing a screen before a video has fully loaded so that the user is aware that the media is still loading. e.g., "Loading..." Right now, APL only has events for after the video has started playing. This is too late to elegantly switch from a "loading" screen to the video.

  14. Some of us are bilingual and would like to make commands in either or both languages. Sometimes it is easier to ask a question in one language and other times on another.

  15. Currently, many of the websites that I visit on Echo redirects me to a mobile version of the website, which basically tells me to download the app (ex. https://open.spotify.com/). I would love the option for the silk to request 'Desktop Version' of the site, so it won't be redirected to the 'get the app' website.

  16. Being able to call a lamda function from a routine would provide a high level of customization, and allow a person to trigger an action from an event. Currently you are forced to use only what is supported out of the box and cant build anything on top of that. Lamda calling would allow for that.

  17. When I go on deployment, I cannot use a “drop in” to talk to my kids for months at a time, so I’m hoping a development is underway to hold/store recordings of me saying goodnight/good morning to the kids and other prerecorded messages of me. Maybe incorporate it into a routine for them too.

  18. Hello there,

it'd be excellent if Alexa could have two languages activated at the same time. For example, I'd love to have German and English activated and have access to the German and the US skill store at the same time.

    Much obliged

  19. Example Alexa show in the kitchen having menu for recipes. For the bedroom things that would replace a phone (port home phone to echo) or an alarm clock, or remote. Echo link not so easy to play music. It will attempt to play on all other echo devices before going to link.

  20. I am creating a smart home skill with the Mode.Controller. There needs to be a way to query what the mode is set to with voice. I see it in my alexa.amazon.com page showing the DeepQuery. But with voice the only response I get is I'm not quite sure what went wrong.. This would greatly help the user experience.
