Allow development skills to be used in routines.
Allow development skills to be used in routines. If we develop a skill, and haven't published it yet, but it is enable and active on our devices then we should be able to use it within a routine (obviously on our own devices).

Thank you for submitting an Alexa Skills Feature Request. We are happy to inform you that the feature you have requested has launched! You can add the development version of a skill as the "action" for a routine. For more information, please refer to the document here:

If you have further questions regarding routines, they would be best directed to our customer support team. They're available via e-mail, phone or live chat and their contact details can be found here:

This is working for me so possibly fixed. I've tried it with several unpublished skills in Dev only, including some in beta and others not. In the routine I just have a single "Customised" action of: "open INVOCATION_NAME".

Currently, only published skills can be invoked from routines. This creates difficulties in skills testing because it is impossible to test how a skill will behave being invoked from a routine. It would be easier if a routine will be able to invoke a skill in published and developing mode as well.

I agree this needs to be a thing. I have all kinds of ideas that are only relevant to me

I really need this too. the only way to publish a private skill is with a business Alexa account which I don't want or have.

Most have unpublished skills they use for 'at home use only'. Would love a way for routines to run those skills.
This would open many avenues for people:
Routine:
at 8pm - run Mytask skill
"Today is Thursday, did you take out the trash?"....Yes
"Did you remember to water the plants?"....No
"Would you like me to remind you again in a hour?"....Yes
"Okay, I'll remind you in an hour to water the plants."Just an example, but it would be nice to use skills in development.

We can already use the skill on the device. Don't see why we can't use it on a routine. A lot of developers want to do personalized apps for themselves and not for the community. Makes no sense that we have to publish it.

Yeah, this will be really useful as we can have custom skills in our routines.
