Turning on/off display automatically
Now it's only possible to turn display off (black) when saying an Alexa command. I'm looking for a routine to make the display turn off and awake automatically. Why? I use Alexa as support for my mother which is suffering from dementia. She uses Alexa commands but she sometimes forgets that she can say "Alexa, turn off", so that she pulls the plug in order to get the display turn black...or she says "Alexa, go sleeping" but would forget to wake up Alexa in the morning with the effect that all the reminders would not work.
Besides that I would have a lot of improvements for Amazon if they would be interested in training Alexa for demented people...

A key aspect of sleeping well is a dark room. The Alexa with a screen comes on in the middle of the night even when I have turned it off and disturbs my sleep.

I think display off should be an screen saver option. That I can select and set that the screen goes off after X minutes what I set.
Energy costs can be reduced this way. Now. I say many times "Alexa display off" but after a couple of hours or after some events it goes on. And then it will show me interesting (boring) texts and such things like last played. We got 4 echoes with display. It is annoying that this simple thing what is actually possible to trigger is not settable in the settings or/and in routine!
Please do it fast! It is 5 minutes for sure to do! I already asked Amazon support to do this, but they do not understand what I mean... interesting!

Agree with this idea - I've been actively trying to incorporate a 'Screen OFF' command into my 'Goodnight' routine which turns off all the lights in the house. Like you, I find the screen too bright and have around 5 echo shows around the house and despite these devices being low energy, I'd still like to switch the screen off at night time.

Great idea. I use echo show 5 as my alarm. Unfortunately, even on dark mode, it is too bright for me. In fact, it is one of the criticisms when reading reviews about echo show. However, if you can turn off the screen as part of a routine, it would be amazing and it would address this problem. Perhaps you can even make a super dark mode where the screen is turned off during certain hours, and is briefly turned on to show clock if you tap the screen or say "what time is it?".
