Alexa Skills - Developer Voice And Vote

Welcome to the Alexa Skills UserVoice site!

This site enables Alexa Skill Developers to request and vote on features you'd like to see in the developer toolset and services for Alexa.

Please bear in mind that this site is for Alexa skill builders, not Alexa users. Additionally, we cannot guarantee each feature request will be implemented but our team reviews each request and sends to the appropriate product teams.

  1. Alexa Multi Room streaming does not appear to be available for third party skills that leverage the AudioPlayer API.

    Feature request is to extend support for Multi Room to the AudioPlayer interface. This could be implemented by adding a custom slot type for the multi room location and then adding an optional parameter to the Play() command to allow the destination room group to be specified.

    This has 37 likes and 19 comments as of Mar 2018 on this URL but doesn't show up on this feature forum - https://forums.developer.amazon.com/idea/101848/bring-multi-room-support-to-audioplayer-api-stream.html - so posting again.

  2. Have Alexa pause when user needs time to think about a response/answer.

    User can say: "wait" or "pause" or "one sec"
    System will flash orange ring until user says: "OK"

    Conversation flow resumes.

  3. Expanding the current implementation of Push would unlock a massive developer opportunity. Please allow devs to build and users to select skills that can speak without the user initiating the conversation. If a skill gets annoying they can turn it off.

  4. I'd like the ability to change 'Developer name or company name' under my Amazon Developer Company Profile. In the Amazon Developer portal today, this isn't possible. I know that I can write a support ticket to do this, but a permanent solution where developers can make these updates themselves would be better.

  5. Problem:

    When an audio streaming skill is actively streaming/playing, users of the skill have to re-open the skill in order to issue additional commands. This creates a very awkward user experience, for example:

    "Alexa, ask AnyPod to play This American Life"

    <This American Life starts playing>

    "Alexa, ask AnyPod to play the oldest episode"

    <oldest episode starts playing>

    "Alexa, ask AnyPod to fast forward 3 minutes"

    <episode fast forwards>

    "Alexa, ask AnyPod to <etc>"

    --

    Solution 1:

    Ideally this interaction would go like this:

    "Alexa, ask AnyPod to play This American Life"

    <This American Life starts playing>

    "AnyPod, play the…

  6. The current flash briefing content (per provider) is a 'one size fits all approach'. Everyone gets the same NPR briefing, for example.

    There are many use-cases where user-specific information could be very powerful in the flash briefing, often in concert with interactive skills. Some examples:

    • A sport team skill that (in the flash briefing) reminds you of your game time this weekend (or of changes), without you ever having to touch a calendar

    • A retailer skill that (in a flash briefing) advises of significant deals, relevant to your buying history or explicit 'watch list'.

    I think this would take flash…

    Thanks a lot for posting this request. Your request has been received.

  7. Room awareness enhancement: add popular device types such as Fan, Air Conditioner, Set-top-box and let users change device type to their favorite. Now Alexa app allows changing device type between Light and Switch for some smart plug devices. But it would be great if for any device, users can define it as light, fan, air conditioner or set-top-box... and the room awareness feature will help simplify voice command. Users just can say: turn on the air conditioner, turn on the fan...
    This device-type-changing feature will be very powerful when an infrared/RF universal remote control like Broadlink is connected to alexa.…

  9. We need more proactive notification event scheme types. The current set is very limited. We want to inform a user of utility company disruption (eg a gas leak or water leak) in their postcode area.

    Why not have a generic event that just takes a message string??

  11. We would like to use this, but can't because the rules are too restrictive.If a user is asked about what they want info about, they should not be forced to say "tell me about Point Defiance Zoo". They should be able to say "Point Defiance Zoo" with no leading phrase. Instead of forcing us to use a leading or trailing phrase, please allow the use of just {query} (without 'search for...' or other text around it as in the example below:
    {

        "name": "SearchIntent",

        "samples": [

          "search for {Query}",

          "find out {Query}",

          "search for {Query} near me"

        ],

        "slots": [

  12. Reviews are one of the major ways people will decide to use your skills. It is also where developers get a lot of feedback or questions regarding their skills. Whilst you can respond to these reviews on the amazon website, it is not visible within the Alexa App for others to see.

    Please allow developers to be able to respond to reviews within the Alexa app. It will provide an easy way to answer any questions and will allow new potential users to see responses by the developer that might otherwise deter them from trying the skill.

  13. Currently, Suppressed or inactive skills remain in developer accounts and create Clutter.

    Allow for Developers to manage and maintain their developer accounts for organization and clarity.

    Additionally a suppressed skill in a developer account still shows as "LIVE" which is in accurate this should be adjusted immediately.

  14. Right now Flash Briefings won't parse SSML in their preamble, error message, or text output. This means content written for a custom skill (for example) cannot be used for Flash Briefings, and any output that could be massaged to sound correct will instead come out sounding wrong.

  15. The audio player interface allows playing from a streaming service - e.g. a radio station
    This is a continuous stream that could run for many hours - but the skill is only given the opportunity to provide song information at the start.
    It could respond to user requests - such as "What song is this?" (which is OK) but, primarily for devices with screens, it would be useful for the skill to be able to provide title/subtitle/graphics as the songs change within the continuous stream.

    This could be done by having the Skill start the audio stream with a duration…

  16. Right now a routine is triggered by a voice command or specific time. However, some routines are to be triggered by voice and time.

    For example:
    Alexa, good night. Will turn of the lights, etc.
    But you want this routine to run at certain time, say 22:00, in case you forgot or because you don’t want to say even the command, etc.
    Currently to achieve this you would have to recreate the entire skill by hand, as were is no copy function either, but this time change the trigger. This is extremely annoying and worsens as the actions in the…

  17. Have widgets to trigger custom or pre-made routines

    Instead of saying "Alexa, turn on my lamp" and waking up my roommate, just tap a widget on my phone's home screen (or on Alexa's app home screen) to run this routine.

    This to be a shortcut to open Alexa's app > menu > Routines > Run

  18. There should be a way of implementing logic into routines or other voice commands to behave different in certain occasions, by the end-user. Maybe through a simple drag and drop interface, ...
    For example, if I say “Alexa, turn the lights on”, depending on the time of the day the brightness and color(-temperature) very to feel more intergrated.

  19. Users frequently need to increase or decrease volume across the different news sources in a Flash News briefing. It would be wonderful if Echo had a volume leveling similar to some TVs that can level the volume between commmercials and regular programming.

  20. Simple voice control of DIY devices could be achieved if the Routines section of the Alexa App had an option to do an HTTP POST.

    eg/ I have a home-made lamp (based on an ESP8266) which I currently control using a custom skill that drops the JSON payload to a Linux server which interprets it then does a HTTP POST to the lamp's URL with the required mode as a parameter. ("mode=candles"/"mode=off"/"mode=purple"...etc)

    I could (and other hobbiests and educators could) much more easily have implemented this with an Alexa Routine identified by "make it candle time" with a line in…
