  1. Allow development skills to be used in routines. If we develop a skill, and haven't published it yet, but it is enable and active on our devices then we should be able to use it within a routine (obviously on our own devices).

  2. I have some routines which I would like to use again, but with small changes. So, I should be able to copy/clone an existing routine, to make the process easier.

  3. Right now a routine is triggered by a voice command or specific time. However, some routines are to be triggered by voice and time.

    For example:
Alexa, good night. Will turn of the lights, etc.
But you want this routine to run at certain time, say 22:00, in case you forgot or because you don’t want to say even the command, etc.
Currently to achieve this you would have to recreate the entire skill by hand, as were is no copy function either, but this time change the trigger. This is extremely annoying and worsens as the actions in the…

  4. There should be a way of implementing logic into routines or other voice commands to behave different in certain occasions, by the end-user. Maybe through a simple drag and drop interface, ...
For example, if I say “Alexa, turn the lights on”, depending on the time of the day the brightness and color(-temperature) very to feel more intergrated.

  5. Simple voice control of DIY devices could be achieved if the Routines section of the Alexa App had an option to do an HTTP POST.

eg/ I have a home-made lamp (based on an ESP8266) which I currently control using a custom skill that drops the JSON payload to a Linux server which interprets it then does a HTTP POST to the lamp's URL with the required mode as a parameter. ("mode=candles"/"mode=off"/"mode=purple"...etc)

I could (and other hobbiests and educators could) much more easily have implemented this with an Alexa Routine identified by "make it candle time" with a line in…

  6. Currently, a routine created in the Alexa app is identified only by the time that the event is occur. It would help to be able to name the routine so that the user can tell what the routine does.

  7. It would be great if we could connect to a bluetooth device as part of the routine. I.E Connect to bluetooth speaker in another room as part of the "good morning" routune.

    • Alexa Good Morning
    • Flash Breifing
    • Connect to BlueTooth Speaker in bathroom
    • Play BBC Radio 1 (will then play through the bluetooth speaker)

  8. Many Alexa users experience the issue of wanting Alexa to whisper on a routine, especially for use of an alarm at night or in the morning. The issue is that many of us wake up even hours before the next person in the house has to wake up, so we can’t use Alexa as the alarm because she has a habit of screaming out her words on routines when you want her to just whisper. It would be great to see the addition of “Alexa whisper” under “device settings” when creating a routine, so that anything Alexa says during the…

  9. When a routine is triggered (e.g. motion detected) i would like to be able to run one of multiple possible routines (sub routines) depending on variable i could set in others.

For example i run a routine when i go to bed that turns off my lights and plays soft music for an hour. I would like to be able to also set the variable $inbed = true and then in my motion detected routine have if $inbed then table light on else all lights on and then my wake up/alarm routine can set $in_bed = false as…

  10. The ability for Alexa to use outside temperature as an alarm trigger. "Alexa notify me if the outside temperature is under 72 degrees." A better implementation for Alexa's with a skill like Weather Bug would be "Alexa notify me if the outdoor temperature is [over/under] the indoor temperature." and the perfect implementation would be a standing command to notify me whenever the indoor & outdoor temps transition past each other.

  11. It would be great if you could trigger a routine based on outdoor temperature since Alexa is already able to fetch local outdoor weather information.

  12. I'd like to be able to pick specific days to run routines, not only ONE day of the week, weekdays or weekends.
Currently if I want to run a routine on -say- Tuesday and Thursday I have to create the routine twice and select Tuesday and Thursday routine days separately.

  13. Be able to enable and disable routines from a voice trigger routine. For example “we’re going on holiday’ could disable routines that are not required when we are away and enable other routines that are, such as routines that make it look like we are home. Or ‘it’s summer’ could enable routines for summer that for example don’t switch on heating and switch off the winter routines that do.

  14. Change the volume of all devices, so you can change the volume of all devices at the same time not only a single device. For example if you wrote a routine called “night time” you could set all devices to a lower preset volume so as not to be so loud. Alternatively in the morning you could say “morning and all devices volume could be increased to a preset volume. And so on

  15. That, and combining triggers would make automating the home a breeze:
    If (temp > 75) and (weather_temp < 73): turn on window fan.

  16. I am currently trying to add a workaround to send voice commands to my TV set top box via their api. I need to add an alexa routing for each channel which means lots of routines being added. Some form of upload for my alexa account in which I can add routines with YAML or JSON or something like that would be ideal.

  17. Now it's only possible to turn display off (black) when saying an Alexa command. I'm looking for a routine to make the display turn off and awake automatically. Why? I use Alexa as support for my mother which is suffering from dementia. She uses Alexa commands but she sometimes forgets that she can say "Alexa, turn off", so that she pulls the plug in order to get the display turn black...or she says "Alexa, go sleeping" but would forget to wake up Alexa in the morning with the effect that all the reminders would not work.

    Besides that I would…

  19. I would like all my speakers to play the radio when the alarm is dismissed. However, right now you can set up only one device in the routine - it cannot be a speaker group. Please add speaker groups as one of the possible devices.

  20. Just as it is important to be able to launch a skill from a routine (this is priority #1), it is also important to be able to make an API call to get a list of routines available under a given account, and then launch one of them from within a skill. One particular use case here relates to the issue of being in-skill for an extended interaction, and the ability to control smart home devices. If routines are available within a skill, it would be an amazing shortcut - wouldn't have to use the smart home API to develop…
