Alexa Skills - Developer Voice And Vote

Welcome to the Alexa Skills Feature Request site! This site enables Alexa Skills Developers to request and vote on features you’d like to see in the developer toolset and services for Alexa.

To keep this site purpose-driven and actionable, we moderate requests. Here’s some guidance on how to create great feature requests that can be evaluated by our development teams. For conversation, dialogue or help, you should visit our Alexa forums. We appreciate your input.

  1. Echo Show Keyboard access for custom skill

    We're building an Alexa for Business skill and we'd like the user to authenticate certain actions via OTP or confirm their email address. Access to the keyboard for these functions would be ideal. Many thanks!

  2. Operate Alexa from an external application.

    I would like to be able to create skills to call users by using external applications as keys instead of waking up words.

  3. Enabling a skill to link to a good on the Amazon retail store (either 1P or 3P)

    It would be great if you could build a skill and link it back to the Amazon retail store to goods. For example, how to do I fix my leaky faucet? Then it could go through the ways to fix the faucet, and enable to user to buy the parts or a new faucet, wrench, etc.

  4. Have Alexa pause during a conversation to allow user to think

    Have Alexa pause when user needs time to think about a response/answer.

    User can say: "wait" or "pause" or "one sec"
    System will flash orange ring until user says: "OK"

    Conversation flow resumes.

  5. Searchable and continually updated list of all certified skill invocation names for developers to check

    Allow developers to easily check to see if a skill invocation name has been previously used by another skill.

  6. Add Social Media account linking in the Alexa App for all skills to use

    Allow users to link their social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc) in the Alexa App itself. Then allow skills to query which accounts are linked and request permission to use those links, without requiring each skill to perform account linking separately (and perhaps not even exposing the account details to the skill, for greater privacy!).

    This would allow a skill to request permission to post to Facebook, for example, to share their new high score. The skill would request this permission at the time of the interaction, and the approval would be delegated to Amazon's built-in handling (to make…

  7. Ability to Mirror Alexa Screen on connected devices

    It will be great if we get the capability to mirror / extend / cast the content (video and/or Text) shown on an Alexa Spot or Show screen onto a connected (bigger) screen.

  8. Add the ability to extend Beta skill test beyond 90 days

    It would be wonderful to be able to either set a custom duration for a Beta test of a skill, or to be able to renew a Beta skill test pool without all the users having to click through a new link or email.

  9. New Console Beta Test in a different section

    Putting the Skill Beta Testing section into Availability is confusing to find. I would have expected it to be under Test or somewhere under a Testing header.

  10. Testing simulator should not time out

    Prior to 03/08/18, the simulator would not timeout after the standard 7-8 seconds. Meaning that a skill could be opened and the session would be active whether a response was provided immediately or 15 minutes later.

  11. Option to show SSML tags in chat transcription (ASK Dev Console Beta)

    Provide option to display SSML tags in chat speech bubbles. Currently some words stick together because they're seperated by tags, which are not shown. With the option to display SSML tags it would be easier to analyze the speech output and the effect of certain SSML tags.

  12. Session timeout - tell me earlier

    If my session has timed out, please let me know sooner rather than later. Right now, I'm able to keep adding intents, utterances, slot types, etc. but as soon as I click "Save Model" , I lose those changes because I have to refresh/log back in.

  13. Alexa app cards in the console

    When the Echo Show display option is unchecked, you should integrate Alexa app cards if developers send it. Even if you don't want to display cards, you should at least treat the console as a non-screen device allowing devs to see cards property in the output JSON when echo screen is disabled

  14. Change "Permissions" nav menu button to "Your Users"

    Change "Permissions" nav menu button to "Your Users"

    In the Alexa Console, the "Permissions" button in the left menu makes me think I can provide permissions (e.g. beta testers and administrator access) to the particular Alexa Skill, not user's access to addresses and read/write lists. Might make sense to change the wording to "Your Users" that way the submenu can contain all info pertain to your uses using your Skill and "Permissions" is uses to give certain permissions access to the app on a tester, administrative, business user or marketing permissions to the Skill

    I'm assuming this feed back forum…

  15. Alexa App Builder Bug

    BUG:
    When using LITERAL types the editor creates invalid json. If I add a slot of type LITERAL to an intent it automatically adds an invalid object to the types list:
    "types": [
    {
    "name": "LITERAL",
    "values": []
    }
    ]
    The model validator complains that the values list can not be empty for a type, but there are not values for a LITERAL type. If I remove the object completely it fixes the schema.

  16. Sound Library Requests

    Here are a few requests for the sound library:

    -Rocketry sounds
    -Horsedrawn carriage/wagon (on wood & cobblestone)
    -Gameshow sounds (Buzzer, success "ding ding ding", cash register/"cha-ching"
    -The Inception "braaam" (https://longreads.com/2016/12/08/braaam-inception-hollywood-soundtracks/)

  17. Service Status Monitors

    On March 2nd there was a system-wide Alexa outage, taking down the ability to use the voice assistant, as well as the ability to use the developer console.

    For many of us in the development community, this appeared at first to be an issue with our skills, so we ended up getting spun up in troubleshooting mode.

    As a developer, I would like the ability to check the overall health of the Alexa components that I am dependent upon.

    AWS does a great job of this exact thing, and could serve as a model: https://status.aws.amazon.com/

  18. Allow to self-remove my email from other's dev portal accounts

    Right now the only way to be removed as a member from other's people dev portal accounts is that an admin remove you, but I should be able to self-remove my account in some part of the https://developer.amazon.com website.

    Thanks for the suggestion, Octavio! We’ll get this routed over to the appropriate internal team for review.

  19. Sample Utterance Issue

    Unfortunately Alexa didn't react anymore to my sample utterances. I had to delete all of them and add them again manually

  20. Fuzzy match intent handler

    Request: a fuzzy match intent handler for spoken utterances, e.g.:

    if contains("sometext")...

    This would allow for a more conversational exchange between the user and Alexa. For example, if the user utterance includes the phrase "not feeling well", the skill could give a sympathetic reply without having to explicitly match every possible permutation of a sentence containing that phrase via intents.
