  1. Auto duck support in APLA Mixer

Auto duck is a popular feature in audio mixing software like Audacity; it allows a track (A) to play at a desired volume while there is silence on another track (B). Whenever track B is NOT silent, track A automatically reduces its volume, allowing track B to be heard clearly, and both tracks to continue uninterrupted. A automatically returns to its default volume when B is silent once again, and so on for the duration of the track(s).

    Example:

    Track A: background music
Track B: voiceover (VO) track - spoken phrases separated by variable-length periods of silence.
    This use case…

  2. APL/APLA should give a clue why a request was "invalid"

In developing APL/APLA skills one often gets "Invalid Response" with zero indication of what was invalid. Either give a better error message or expose the internal logging of the document parser.

  3. webAPI start skill connections by tapping

I have a skill that uses skill connections to transfer users to other skills.

This skill uses webAPI for its visuals and I'd like the user to be able to commence the skill connection via touch.

This is possible via APL but not currently via webAPI. It would be good if this was supported for webAPI skills too as APL doesn't support the level of animation or continuous background music provided in our webapp.

  4. APL transition property

The AnimateItem command can be used to create animations for the opacity and transform properties. With the release of APL 1.6, many more properties have been unlocked for dynamic updates, such as the height and width of a component. However, the AnimateItem command does not support these properties, instead you have to use for example Easing Functions to implement animations for these properties. In my opinion, the Easing Functions are relatively complex in terms of their structure, and furthermore they can currently only be defined statically, which means that, as with the AnimateItem command, I have to define the initial and…

  5. Show installed skill icons on echo show home screen like a tablet or phone does

Lots of wasted space. Help out skill developers by providing a visual reminder of what skills they've used in the past.

  6. Web API for Games Support for NOT Games

Currently, Web API for Games support requires that the skill be a Game.
I would like to use the Web API functionality for visuals for NOT games. For example, voice controlled charts and maps. So, if I have a Skill showing the location of the nearest hardware store and the user says, Not that One, I want the map to move, and Web API is a great way to do that.

  7. Stereo Support for APL for Audio

APL-A touts higher sample rates and uncompressed audio, but that only pertains to the input format. Any high quality audio file gets mixed down to an output format of mono 48 kbps, meaning that it is actually ultimately worse than the potentially stereo format possibly with the audio tag.

Please consider adding stereo support for Mixer & Sequencer events, if not actually increasing the end output quality.

  8. APL Events Console (APL Authoring Tool)

It would be very useful, when using the APL Authoring Tool and in play mode, having a separate console that logs all the fired commands. Especially the SendEvent command could be very useful to get more details on (a list of all the listed arguments), especially when working with dynamic values that might change throughout interaction with the APL document.

  9. APL functions to retrieve properties of elements

APL functions to retrieve properties of elements would be very helpful.

    For example:

    Document.getScrollTop();

    Element.getOffsetTop('id')
    Element.getOffsetLeft('id')
    Element.getWidth('id')
    Element.getHeight('id')

  10. AWS IOT device shadow integration to show real time data

I'm working on Alexa skill. I need to have real time data in my visual cards. I was planning to integrate with AWS device shadow so I will be able to show device state changes in realtime or I can implement real time data pulling using HTTP request.

Any suggestions are welcomed. Thanks in advance

  11. APL - Don't stop skill when a user interacts with components

Presenting an APL document that includes components such as a ScrollView, for example, invites the user to interact with that component. Unfortunately, as soon as the user touches the screen, the skill stops. If Alexa was speaking, she abruptly stops speaking. If the user does nothing more, the skill comes to an end and the user is kicked out. This is a horrible experience.

Add the ability, for developers to present either certain components that won't interrupt the skill, or a full document that won't react to touch.

  12. APL Support for smartphones

    Hey,

I don't understand why APL is not available on smartphones. Smartphones are able to display simple cards but not to show APL-rendered screens. I understand the difficulty of different screen sizes here but it would be really cool if you could implment APL in your Alexa-App (especially for testing).

  13. launch Alexa skills with GUI click

If I build an APL skill with rich visuals and multimodal click support, I want to be able to have it feature visually on Fire devices for customers to click to launch. This extra discovery would incentivise development of rich visuals.

  14. Web fonts for displays

The release of APL is great, but we are stuck to using the Amazon Ember font, which is now the only thing that makes multimodal designs seen too Amazon-ish for some requirements.

It would be great it we could define custom typeface in the APL JSON and be able to use this font in containers and text fields in APL.

    Cheers!

  15. Rich Content Cards for Users

When I need to present something to my user that requires a more complex interaction with the user. In my usecase it's playlist generation where voice interaction would not be simple and I would need to direct user to a web environment. I can pass a card with a URL that is easy for the user to type in but it would be better if the URL was clickable.

  16. screenshot

    Alexa, take a screenshot.

Would be helpful in documentation and marketing/promotion of APL-driven skills to be able to take a screenshot directly off the device.

Saying something like "Alexa, take a screenshot" could take the screenshot and save it to Amazon Photos, just as "take a selfie" does with the front-facing camera.

  17. Add support for GIF and Video as background for Display Interface and Templates

Developers should be able to use GIFs and Videos for the background of their Display Interfaces and Templates including for Echo Spot and Echo Show.

  18. Allow voice conversation to continue after a user touches the screen

On devices with screens when you use the List template we observe the following: Once a list is displayed, it puts the Echo in a state where you can’t continue voice commands. For example, if a user invokes an intent that brings up a menu of options on the screen that is displayed with the List template and the user touches the screen to scroll, the voice interaction with the user comes to an end. They have to say “Alexa” first to return to the voice conversation. This should not be the case - please remove the need to say…

  19. Developer SDK for Automatic Scrolling and Highlighted Text (Display Interface)

On Echo Spot or Echo Show, when there are multiple cards or items in a list, for example, Alexa keeps on going while the card stays at number one. When the user tries to slide, Alexa stops speaking.

Developers should be able to make the cards automatically move and be highlighted just like they are in the AllRecipes skill.

  20. Allow multi-modal pages to refresh in-place with different data

I want to create a skill that shows an image with some text a la the "Today's Cheese" sample app, but I want this skill to be able to periodically update the images and text based on a server-side push.
