Routines with multiple triggers
Right now a routine is triggered by a voice command or specific time. However, some routines are to be triggered by voice and time.
For example:
Alexa, good night. Will turn of the lights, etc.
But you want this routine to run at certain time, say 22:00, in case you forgot or because you don’t want to say even the command, etc.
Currently to achieve this you would have to recreate the entire skill by hand, as were is no copy function either, but this time change the trigger. This is extremely annoying and worsens as the actions in the…57 votes -
Logic in routines
There should be a way of implementing logic into routines or other voice commands to behave different in certain occasions, by the end-user. Maybe through a simple drag and drop interface, ...
For example, if I say “Alexa, turn the lights on”, depending on the time of the day the brightness and color(-temperature) very to feel more intergrated.52 votes -
Alexa Routines to have a "Post HTTP" option for simple automation.
Simple voice control of DIY devices could be achieved if the Routines section of the Alexa App had an option to do an HTTP POST.
eg/ I have a home-made lamp (based on an ESP8266) which I currently control using a custom skill that drops the JSON payload to a Linux server which interprets it then does a HTTP POST to the lamp's URL with the required mode as a parameter. ("mode=candles"/"mode=off"/"mode=purple"...etc)
I could (and other hobbiests and educators could) much more easily have implemented this with an Alexa Routine identified by "make it candle time" with a line in…

temperature alarm
The ability for Alexa to use outside temperature as an alarm trigger. "Alexa notify me if the outside temperature is under 72 degrees." A better implementation for Alexa's with a skill like Weather Bug would be "Alexa notify me if the outdoor temperature is [over/under] the indoor temperature." and the perfect implementation would be a standing command to notify me whenever the indoor & outdoor temps transition past each other.

If then else, variables, and subroutines
When a routine is triggered (e.g. motion detected) i would like to be able to run one of multiple possible routines (sub routines) depending on variable i could set in others.
For example i run a routine when i go to bed that turns off my lights and plays soft music for an hour. I would like to be able to also set the variable $inbed = true and then in my motion detected routine have if $inbed then table light on else all lights on and then my wake up/alarm routine can set $in_bed = false as…

Allow creating triggers based on thermostat current temperature
That, and combining triggers would make automating the home a breeze:
If (temp > 75) and (weather_temp < 73): turn on window fan.12 votes -
Insert a skill at the begin of a routine
I can only use a skill at the end of a routine? Why? I want to start with a skill inside my routine, but I get everytime a message, that this skill must be at the end of a routine.

Routines should be able to include more than one skill and spoken command for “from the device you speak to”
Routines should be able to include more than one skill and spoken command for “from the device you speak to”…
For example, I have four bedrooms with echos and smart lights. I would like to be able to speak the same one phrase (“bedtime”) in any of those rooms and have a routine turn off the lights in that room (custom - lights off) and open sleep sounds brown noise (skill) on the echo in that room. Presently, routines are limited to only one “custom” OR one “skill” action “from the device you speak to” making it necessary for different…

Add option to request user input and parse to other steps
When creating a routine, have an option to add a step where Alexa seeks user input (voice) so that additional information or steps can be configured. Would work well with integration of logic gates in routine builder as well, and ability to parse user input to future steps.
Ex. ‘Goodnight’ routine that turns off living room lights/tv and asks about turning on bedroom tv.
User: Alexa, I’m heading to bed.
Alexa: Do you want me to turn on the bedroom TV for you?
User: Yes
Routine runs standard commands to turn off living room lights and tv, as well as…

Have routines that vary depending on the device
I have IRC devices in two rooms, controlling a TV, Audio Device, Cable box. They both have the same model cable box.
I would like to be able to trigger different routine logic path depending on which echo device receives the command.
IE: "Alexa Start NBC" would trigger the remote code or scene for the bedroom IRC when the bedroom echo receives the command, or the living room IRC which the livingroom echo receives the command.

Sunset offset greater than 60 minutes.
Allow the sunset trigger to be offset by more than 60 minutes, similar to other platforms which allow greater control. Today I have to use a 3rd party to complete a task at sunset minus 90 and can only use Alexa at sunset minus 60. I'd prefer to keep this completely within Alexa.

Routine to stop a skill
Currently in alexa, I am able to add a routine that plays a sleepsounds music every night 10pm. But now the issue is I am not able to stop the skill after 10 minutes.
This feature should be added so that I can stop any routine after certain time.

SecuityPanelController used with Routines
The SecurityPanelController (SPC) class is not supported under routines when it is a natural that it should. Many people would like to use geofencing to arm/disarm their security system but the SPC is not supported. This is really strange as we have hundreds of thousands of users and this is one of the first things they ask for when they enable our SPC skill.
Amazon technical support said I should post a feature request.

An advanced web editor for routines
My idea has two parts:
1. Add a web editor for routines also on alexa.amazon.* that works like android/iOS app editor
2. Add also an "advanced mode" where you can directly write code and, maybe, add more complex logic, variables ecc...3 votes -
Correct / Allow for any smart device as a trigger
Your routines will not allow for any of my light switches or plugs to be used as a trigger, hence switch goes on anounce something as action. This restriction makes no sence and cannot seem to be able to find any smart switches or plugs that will show in the routines device triggers screen.

Using acronyms in custom routines
It is not possible to use acronyms in custom routines as the invocation needs periods and they are not allowed as they are considered special characters. For example if you write "watch c n n", Alexa understands "watch c. n. n." and won't recognize or match the phrase. Could you please find a way to allow the use of acronyms in a routine?

Allow multiple custom commands or skills in a single routine
Presently, if you create a routine and select either custom command or skill, then go to add another one or either of these, the selection gets greyed out thereby not allowing for multiple custom commands or skills in a single routine.

SmartHome Alexa.TemperatureSensor as a routine trigger
Would be great if SmartHome's Alexa.TemperatureSensor interface is supported as a routine trigger (not the Echo's one but the generic one)

Routine Trigger > Alarm > When Alarm is set & Reference the alarm's time
This would be amazing and work so well with many people's routines from all I hear from the community, youtube, family and friends.
Lately "when alarm is dismissed" was added as a routine's trigger. Please consider adding "when alarm is set" and combine it with referencing the alarm time.
E.g. Trigger: "When alarm is set" > Action: "Turn on light" 30 minutes before alarm rings.
This can not be achieved with "schedule" since alarms can be set at different times.
Its pretty much 2 feature requests, I know, but it would increase any alarm based routine by aaa lot :)

Add "Connect" Command to Routines
Add functionality to connect echo to bluetooth devices. Voice command "Connect" needs to be available for routine execution. Please consider Germany with translated command "Verbinde"
Currently the Echo is not automatically reconnecting on every Bluetooth device. The voice command is solving this but does not provide the user experience I expect. If I turn off external speaker for energy saving reasons at night, I cannot automatically play on the external device next morning as this is not connected.
