  1. If you call your Alexa design language APL (Alexa Presentation Language), it will be very confusing. APL is A Programming Language, a popular array oriented language implemented by IBM, Dyalog, and many others. It has been around since the early 1960s. Look up APL programming language on the web and you'll see. Can I suggest AVL (Alexa Voice Language)?

  2. The idea is to enable Alexa of initiating a conversation, rather than just responding to inquiries. Some applications, such as using Alexa to interact with an autistic child, require that Alexa starts the conversation in some cases. Giving Alexa this ability may open the door for new and out of the box solutions.

  3. I am creating a smart home skill with the Mode.Controller. There needs to be a way to query what the mode is set to with voice. I see it in my alexa.amazon.com page showing the DeepQuery. But with voice the only response I get is I'm not quite sure what went wrong.. This would greatly help the user experience.

  5. Go ahead and try to get Alexa to play "Cantos Profane" by Richard Band. Or get it to call my friend Viktyr (No, I don't have any friends named Victor". Some things just require spelling, and Alexa does not accept spelling words out.

  6. Ability to ask Alexa what skill it is/was currently executing.

I test skills through a combination of ngrok, the skill's backend log and my Alexa device. So I should see everything. Sometimes Alexa seems to lose contact with my skill. It would be nice to ask Alexa about what skill it thinks it is running.

  7. In follow up mode, Alexa continues to listen for a while after the skill closed (session is ended) and detects if there's a relevant follow up request for the user. This is designed to relieve the user from having to say, "Alexa....."

It's logical to assume that if the user makes a request in follow-up mode that can be handled by the previous skill (e.g., they ask for another stock price fact after having just used 'my great stock price skill', they would expect that skill to return the response.

This is not how it works now. Even the the…

  8. Interpret-as tag allows you to have the device speak characters, numbers, addresses, etc.

One thing I noticed however is it doesn't respect case. I was wondering if something can perhaps be added to address this? If you echo out the below ssml you will just get a-b-t-h back. Ideally it would say Capital A, lowercase b, Capital T, lowercase h. I have a skill that echos back password values that are generated with different case. Right now I have to pass this into a function and do this mapping on my own, would be nice if it was something built…

  9. Creation of an "AMAZON.ExtendedHoldIntent" type intent.

To the user, the device clearly indicates to be in a waiting state by graying out or blanking the screen.
A mauve to white to mauve triangle wave flashes on the hardware LED(s) as the indicator.
"(wake work +), I'm back / okay / continue etc." re-triggers the previous speech directive and prompt etc.
    AWS modifies the Lambda’s context.
The Alexa Skill triggers the lambda with previous attributes and is not a new session.
Amazon decides how best to handle the Lambda compute use time increase, or which maximums are allowable.

    Creation of a…

  10. Currently gameplay is limited to single device. Communicating cross device — ex. Drop in — is available, but not gameplay. Being able to challenge/play multiple devices at different locations — rooms, houses, etc.

  11. Its very annoying, that you can not test your skill without deploying it. Especially because you have to change the lambda endpoint when updating your skill because otherwise your live lambda function will be overwritten.

It would be great to be able to test locally like 'ask-simulate' without deploying.

  12. I want to connect Alexa with wallmote in IOT, and want to wake Alexa when a switch has been pressed in wallmote, without saying the invoke word "Alexa", For this is there of any possibilities of writting trigger function in API's or event creation when button pressed in wallmote.

  13. Automatic Skill Activation

This is really a must for Alexa to have scheduled skill invocation without voice command ... please make it happen!

  14. Developer Support Contact Us link that shows the message history and current status of opened tickets.

Right now the only options are to post in the Alexa Skills Forum or submit a contact us ticket here.

    https://developer.amazon.com/support/contact-us?caseID=XXXXXX

Creating a portal where a user can check the status of their tickets would help reduce the number of duplicate submissions, less work connecting the tickets to each other.

I'd also recommend that the public can't view the ticket's message history and status unless they are logged in with valid permissions, so skill-Id's and details about IP won't be shared to the general…

  15. Allow the adding of some kind of "anti-trigger" that will stop Alexa waking itself when the invocation word is mentioned in a podcast, or SSML audio. And/or, allow a flag that will reduce sensitivity to the wake-word during a particular piece of audio, using the mic array to detect whether the wake word was generated internally or externally.

I know that there is an unofficial theory that self-invocation can be lessened by boosting / cutting certain frequencies around the actual wake-word, but this isn't always practical where third-party audio is involved.

  17. Possibility to expose an API to remotly interract with alexa, or give the routnie to be more complex to send ifttt command and auto set alexa commande and request.
For example , i actualy try to run complexe routines passing by ifttt, push bullet, local node js server to :
    - request alexa to connect to bluetooth
    - start AV receiver : working fine
    - configure AV receiver to good entry, volume, etc : working fine
    - request Alexa to connect to bluetooth : impossible without another voice commande
    - request alexa to set volume to 5 : impossible without…

  18. Please provide an endpoint for when a user disables (unlinks) a linked skill.
This will allow us to know its time to delete any data we have for the user, and therefore be good to users with the use of their data.

  19. On March 2nd there was a system-wide Alexa outage, taking down the ability to use the voice assistant, as well as the ability to use the developer console.

For many of us in the development community, this appeared at first to be an issue with our skills, so we ended up getting spun up in troubleshooting mode.

As a developer, I would like the ability to check the overall health of the Alexa components that I am dependent upon.

AWS does a great job of this exact thing, and could serve as a model: https://status.aws.amazon.com/
