Alexa Skills - Developer Voice And Vote

Welcome to the Alexa Skills UserVoice site!

This site enables Alexa Skill Developers to request and vote on features you'd like to see in the developer toolset and services for Alexa.

Please bear in mind that this site is for Alexa skill builders, not Alexa users. Additionally, we cannot guarantee each feature request will be implemented but our team reviews each request and sends to the appropriate product teams.

  1. It'll be amazing if we can have location based skill recommendation. e.g.
When saying "Find San Francisco skills", it will recommend related local skills for me

  2. Why do APL designed skills have a dark tint/overlay on listening mode?
This seems to be a UX flaw.
Why hinder visibility of a skill designed to have a visible aspect?

The blue waving graphic should be more than enough to let the user know Alexa is listening.

  3. Provide an option to disable skill timeout while developing Alexa apps. This would allow code to be debugged from end to end without receiving "The requested skill took too long to respond". It is not currently possible to step through code and review the output in the simulator without sending multiple requests.

It would be incredibly valuable to allow the timeout to be optional while a skill is being developed.

  4. Since the new Alexa App update you have to go unter 'activities' to view the cards. This definitely harms UX since users have to first find this view and always have to navigate there. Many skills require quick user access to card resources which now suffer from the new changes. Right now if you open the Alexa App you just get the weather info and some recommendations what to say to Alexa. This does not to be very time critical information you want to get on startup of the app.
I would appreciate some opinions on this topic from other…

  6. Currently users can vote for a skill and give a short review (sometimes with questions, sometimes faulty operations or the rating means another skill). As developer/or user you can answer to this review on amazon.com/de/co.uk etc.
But it isn't displayed in the Alexa App! Nobody can see it except on the website. But only very few users know that

  7. It would be great to have way to see what skills are Echo Show/Spot/Any Screen and/or display ready.

Otherwise people don't know what skills are just going to be audio, or have visuals on them.

  9. Hi!

I would like to know if there's any possibility to take a picture with the Alexa Echo Show with my skill. Basically I want to make a facial validation and show some content depending on the user :)

I'm currently using NodeJS for this purpose.

  10. Similar to the mobile app store - let skills send updates on the alexa app to users who have enabled the skill and agreed to receive notifications from that skill. Would help so much with feature updates and retention and imo is not very intrusive. users can always opt out.

  11. I would love the ability for my HD8 and other fire tables to be part of the group function within the app. This will allow for control over firesticks with a tablet as well as group tablets in music and room functions such as being able to say turn off lights in a room. I have tablets mounted in every bedroom in our house and unfortunately am missing these features

  12. Under the language settings options, you have a Remove button but when I try to remove from a locale that is already published I get a non-descript error saying unable to save. Amazon launched my skill to a locale I did not want, and now I have a lot of problems because of it. I should be able to remove a singular locale, especially if Amazon launched to it without my consent.

  14. We program skills with which people with speech and language disorders can train with alexa. the tests with the patients run well but the biggest problem the people have is pronouncing the invacation name. it would be great if you could start a skill by touch (Alexa app) like with google assistant for smartphones.

  15. Skill Marketplace Icon In The Bottom Of Alexa App Needed

I think the skill marketplace needs a one touch icon at bottom of Alexa app to get to the skills marketplace section, right now there are too many steps to find new skills in the app.

Having an icon at the bottom of the Alexa app would mean more exposure to skills.

The way things are right now it requires far to many steps to go to the marketplace.

Skills also need to have the ability to have feedback left on them by voice, the way feedback and reviews have…

  16. If we asked a question to alexa and user answer it then there has to be a way to find that this answer is given by user for this perticular question. for ex. if alexa asked di you mean artist A or artist B or artist C and user answered artist C, then we should know that this answer is for this perticular question only.

  17. I would like to be able to clear the oauth token so a user can logout with new credentials and get a different token. As described in https://forums.developer.amazon.com/questions/62270/how-to-do-log-out-or-invalidate-auth-token-in-alex.html
this is only possible if we disable then re-enable the skill, but then the userId would be lost and I would like to avoid that.

  18. With many intents that share baseline handling intents (help, cancel, etc.) it would be nice to be able to define all these at a top level, and have specialized states cascade down. e.g. Define NewSession state with all the default handlers. In a new, specialized state, SpecialState, you only define those intents that are specific to that state, and any non defined events cascade down to NewSession state.

This would allow more simplified code, as well as the ability to better maintain consistency through out experience.
